Unfortunately, the film was a total box office disaster. Even though it involved an extended weekend, we found that the box office collection was steadily declining. The movie just managed to obtain 66.03 Crores that are nowhere close to the film’s production budget.

Varun Dhawan Can Be a Loser
Bollywood producers must realize and appreciate the fact that Varun Dhawan can also, lose. Varun Dhawan is not a winning machine. They have to accept that losing is part of the game. Ever since his debut in 2012, Dhawan has acted in 12 movies including Kalank and 11 out of those 12 have been super-duper hits. Everyone assumed that Varun Dhawan himself is the winning formula and he can never do any wrong. Kalank has ultimately managed to end his incredible winning streak. Varun Dhawan has to taste bitter failure for the first time in his Bollywood career. The lesson to be learned here is that no actor is God. They are susceptible to failures. However, treat failures as the pillars of success.
Alia-Varun Chemistry Cannot Always Result in Hits
All the previous four movies that Varun and Alia acted in, as a pair, are runaway hits. In fact, before Kalank people regarded Varun and Alia as the new generation hit pair who could be compared to Shahrukh and Kajol pair. Obviously, with such a dazzling record, producers took it for granted that this pair and their mind-blowing chemistry on screen would be all that is required to pull a movie, irrespective of its storyline or content. Kalank’s box office failure has proved beyond doubt that the leading pair alone cannot shoulder the responsibility for a film’s success or failure.
Even Alia Could Choose a Wrong Script
Alia Bhatt has proved herself as an exceptional actress; in fact, she has been appreciated and acknowledged as one of the present generation’s finest actresses. Her skill, as well as, her choice of movies has contributed to her phenomenal success in recent times. However, with Kalank, Alia Bhatt has proved that she too, is susceptible to wrong scripts.
